The temperature layer for the physical world.

You check the weather before you leave. You can’t check the temperature inside the place you’re going. WhatTemp makes the indoor climate of every public space a searchable, trustworthy data point — a free consumer app on top, a defensible data company underneath.

The problem

Indoor temperature is the most-felt, least-published fact about a venue. “Bring a sweater” is folklore, not data — and no one owns the answer at the moment you’re deciding what to wear.

Why now

Connected thermostats sit in most commercial spaces and expose official read-only APIs. The sensors are already online; the neutral layer that aggregates and publishes them doesn’t exist yet.

The wedge → the company

Free app: geolocated indoor temps, plain-language verdict, search. Then the expansion — opt-in wearables (WHOOP, Garmin, Apple, Oura) teach us what temperature the human body actually prefers. The first dataset joining climate to physiology.

Business model

Free for consumers and for venues to publish (coverage is the asset). Revenue: $9/mo Venue Pro, the $29 WhatTemp Sensor (hardware for spaces with no smart thermostat), a licensed API to maps & search, and anonymized comfort analytics for chains.

Why this is defensible

Four assets no thermostat maker and no map will build neutrally: (1) the cross-vendor aggregation layer — one normalized reading from many incompatible APIs; (2) the “Indoor Temperature” schema & the verified dataset that fills it — own the standard, own the category; (3) confidence & verification scoring; (4) the comfort model — patent-pending territory. Already built: working multi-surface product, published schema with a live reference API, and pilot-ready thermostat OAuth.
